In Class
Listening to lectures, joining discussions, asking the follow-up question, writing paragraphs that say what you mean, reading academic texts. The English of academic progress now, and career readiness next.
English Language School · Malden, MA
Located across from the Malden Center T, High Expectations English Language School has been committed to teaching English to immigrant adults and international students since 2015. We support our students with more than language — we help them adjust to a new culture and adapt to the changes that accompany building a new life far from home.

What we teach
Our students need English for the first day of class, the application essay, the call to the bank, and the long phone call home in a second language. We teach the English that actually shows up in their lives — academic, practical, and the kind that holds you together far from home.
Listening to lectures, joining discussions, asking the follow-up question, writing paragraphs that say what you mean, reading academic texts. The English of academic progress now, and career readiness next.
TOEFL preparation, application essays, professor emails, interview practice, professional writing. The English of what comes after class — a U.S. degree, a graduate program, or a job back home.
The bank, the T station, the doctor’s office, the apartment hunt, the cashier who asks how your day is going. The English of building a life in Malden — and around it.
Video calls across time zones, awkward small talk that turns into friendship, the long phone call when something happens back home, the slow work of belonging in a new place. The English no textbook teaches.

Why English
English isn’t only the language of the classroom. It’s the language of academic publishing, global business, and the next step in a career — whether that next step is a U.S. university, a graduate program, or a job back home that pays better because you can do it.

Quick facts
When I arrived in the United States, I couldn’t speak English or say a single sentence. Today, I can share my thoughts with confidence. Being far from home can make you feel lost, but at High Expectations I always had someone helping me. They’re more than a school — they’re a family.
